Macromedia Certified Instructor

Last week, whilst Matt Boles was in the UK, I was put through my paces as an instructor for the Developing Rich Internet Applications with Macromedia Flex course. After a whole week of nail biting tension, I finaly heard from Robert Crooks (God of Training here at Macromedia) that I had made the grade and I was fully certified!

So, if you need a Flex course, I am your man!

Macromedia On Sale!

Now how is this for a sale! Amazon UK is offering a staggering 50% off a selection of Macromedia book titles! Looks like they are expecting more than a few people to be reading over the colder months!

(damn I really should set myself up as an Amazon affilate one of these days)

Macromedia Tech Wednesday – Securing your ColdFusion MX Server

This week’s Tech Wednesday presentation was by Steve Rittler the PA CFUG Manager, on “Securing Your ColdFusion MX Server: Best Practices For Security and Performance.” The default installation of ColdFusion MX is fairly secure, but there are things you can do to enhance the security and stability of your server. Steve will go over just about every setting in the ColdFusion administrator and review some best practices for using CFMX with IIS.

Macromedia Tech Wednesday

For those of you who are unaware, Macromedia has recorded tech session with a Team Macromedia member every wednesday!
This week’s preso was by Team MM Member, Chris Georgenes, who discussed Lip Syncing in Flash. Chris did a great demo of his technique for setting up Flash movies for fast and easy lip syncing of characters to audio. Chris has developed a streamlined method for delivering half-hour character-driven animation for a number of networks (Cartoon Network, FX, ABC).
Check out the recording!

Flash and Search engines

I often get asked how we can get Flash content searched and indexed by search engines like Google. The answer is quite simple, search engines like Google are already able to search and index content from within the SWF file format.

Just have a look at this simple search for the word ‘Macromedia’ inside SWF content – http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=filetype%3Aswf+macromedia

Ok so this technology is new and the results are not perfect but these will get better over time. The largest challange is what to index. To that end, there is an SDK that you can download from Macromedia to help with this! Grab the Search engine SDK and get to work today!

MX Europe 2004!

After many months of debates, Niklas and I have finally decided to put on another conference! After the success of CF-Europe last year, we are going to expand our horizons to include the entire Macromedia MX product range!

From Director MX to Flash MX and ColdFusion MX to Flash Communication Server MX, we will search the world to find the best speakers for you!

For now, have a look at mxeurope.org at the speakers that we have already confirmed (it only took a few e-mails to find these speakers! They loved it so much last year, they could not wait to say yes!) and we will be posting more details as we know more!

In the mean time, if you are interested in speaking, drop me a mail!
